The earth knows my name : food, culture, and sustainability in the gardens of ethnic Americans / Patricia Klindienst.
I first came across this book while working at a used book warehouse. As books came across my table (I had the lowly job of putting SKU stickers on books…) I would scribble titles into a little note book (the only good thing about this job, really) and this was amongst them. But I didn’t read it until after it came up as the Kitchen Gardeners International book of the month in June. Klindienst has written an oral history of gardening as a process of active place-making by immigrants in the United States which is deeply engaging and beautifully written.
